Individual differences in these sensations have been identified as an important predictor of the transition from experimental to more regular smoking and to the development of tobacco dependence [ 2– 6].
(Female, non-smoker, 20 years) As youth progressed from trying smoking for the first time to more regular smoking often during high school, avenues for acquiring tobacco broadened, as has been described elsewhere [ 34].

Similarly, a Dutch population-based study among 5938 adolescents [ 22] has reported that adolescents with depressive feelings were more likely to report lifetime smoking (OR = 1.73, 95% CI: 1.46-2.05), and more likely to report regular smoking (OR = 2.06, 95% CI: 1.55-2.74) thosethose without depressive feelings.
However, speeded thinning did occur in smokers who had started regular smoking more recently, in between the two measurements.
Commonly risk behaviors for them are: regular smoking, more than 5 glasses of alcohol in the last month, attempted suicide in the past year, marijuana use in the past month, consumption of other illicit drugs in the last year and unprotected sex at any time of life, resulting in unwanted pregnancy and school dropout.
