Indeed, the soil seed bank samples were clustered together, and the understory vegetation samples were more heterogeneous, clustered in two separate groups (Fig. 4).
If assignments were more heterogeneous, the cluster was assigned as uncategorised for the particular type of assignment.
Antigen-encoding gene profiles (Fig. 2, Supplementary Table 2) were more heterogeneous within Cluster 2 with two different alleles each for nadA and nhba and 8 11 different alleles for porA, porB, fetA, and fHbp genes.
Interestingly, group B is divided into three major subgroups (bootstrap > 70): B.I and B.II sharing high phylogenetic homogeneity and subgroup B.III, more heterogeneous, encompassing three clusters of strains (bootstrap > 99).
Furthermore, they found a group of SNPs specific to the Hajj cluster located in four recombinant regions which were not present in any of the more heterogeneous strains in Cluster 2, which suggests that this allelic replacement is due to recombination with donor sequences from other non-ST-11 isolates or commensal Neisseria species.
In addition, the M-metastases values of normal samples tend to be higher than most of the metastasis samples (with the exception of only one). Figure 2 shows a gradual progression of the samples positions on this plane from a well-differentiated tissue type specific profile, first to a more heterogeneous primary tumor cluster, and finally to an even less differentiated metastatic profile.
The position of the mercurials was more heterogeneous, with three clustering close to the controls, while the others shifted to the upper right (Fig. 1d).
