Comparison of the classification maps to each other and to the color composite of the site (Figure 1) reveals that the ANN and the MED produced much more detailed class maps than the MLH, and that they are also more detailed than the SAM map, although the differences with the SAM map are more subtle.
However, more detailed class suspension data as well as age-specific epidemic data is needed to further quantify the actual impact or effectiveness of this very unique approach of partial school closure and localized class suspensions on the infections in the school and in the community in a qualitative modeling analysis (see, e.g., [ 12, 13, 38]).
For example, the definition of the population into three discrete age classes can be refined with the support of data that would take into account more detailed age class education, work skills, and health status.
More detailed and class-specific object models could be utilised when needed, as articulated models, object contour or appearance models.
For quantification, we divided cells present at day 1 into 3 classes: cells that finally gave rise to one cell by Day 8 (in most cases neither divided nor died; class A), cells that gave rise to two or more cells (in most cases divided at least once; class B), and those that died (class C) (Fig. 6a, see also Additional file 3: Figure S3b and S3c for a more detailed description of classes).
It is also noteworthy that the analysis remains congruent at a more detailed taxonomic resolution (class and order, Figures 4b and 4c) for the taxonomic groups, which are comparably well covered in both databases (e.g. Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, Actinobacteria).
More detailed studies using CLASS-Bio to address recruitment and retention of biology majors are currently underway.
The accuracy assessment of the multi-sensor land cover map yields an overall accuracy of 80% at legend level 1 (9 classes) and 73% at the more detailed legend level 2 (14 classes).
