However, the more depressed group became relatively larger in the CATIE-trial as a consequence of the lower cut-off (CDSS ≥ 6) for depression.
As hypothesized, patients in the more-depressed groups had higher K-DSC-R scores.
As expected, the patients in the present study who were in the more-depressed groups and in the HbA1c-uncontrolled group had worse K-DSC-R scores.
Patients in more-depressed groups and in the HbA1c-uncontrolled group had higher K-DSC-R scores, satisfying the known-groups validity.
For the test of known-groups validity, it was hypothesized – based on previous studies [ 21, 22] – that the symptom distress as measured using the K-DSC-R would be higher for patients in the more-depressed groups.
When combined across all tests, Group A was more depressed than Group B; Group C was not different from either Group A or Group B. The planned comparisons indicated no significant change in depression across the tests for any of the three groups.
For example, some studies showed that female gender was associated with membership in more severely depressed groups [ 39, 41].
The IS group, although they did not show clinically relevant depressive symptoms any more, and in particular the RS group were still significantly more depressed than the control group.
Interestingly those in the intervention group were found to be significantly more depressed than the control group after 6 months as detected by HADS depression subscale.
Lastly, the AN group were significantly more anxious than the HC group (13.9 ± 0.83 vs. 4.38 ± 0.61, P < 0.01) and also more depressed than the HC group (10.3 ± 1.23 vs. 1.62 ± 0.39, P < 0.01), but there was no difference between the subtypes.
At three years, the siblings were no more depressed than a control group, but the mothers were still having difficulty.
