Unlike the guard position, in which the close quarters make abrupt collisions and hand-to-hand wrestling more common, a left tackle is engaged in more of a dance-and-parry effort at the edge of the line.
Atypical language lateralization is significantly more common in left temporal lobe epilepsy patients than healthy controls (Springer et al., 1999), and is associated with more frequent interictal epileptiform activity (Janszky et al., 2003, 2006).
Daily seizures were more common in left temporal lobe surgery candidates than the other two groups (56% versus 29% in right surgical candidates and 27% non-surgical controls), although differences between groups were non-significant (χ2 = 5.46, P = 0.24).
This may create problems with processing in the brain leading to the large array of problems that are somewhat more common among left-handers: dyslexia, sleep problems, later sexual maturity, more likelihood of having twins, and an extraordinary array of other differences.
