With accepting irregularity and consequently more closer packing in space arrangement of these B NP, the volumes of corresponding trapping sites are expected to be essentially less than those geometrically regular shown in Fig. 1.
This indicates that size dependent chemical free energy is of concern to form a more stable close packed structure for the tube wall.
The rhombohedral face and the hexagonal basal plane are equally close-packed, but the former contains* a much more closely packed line than does the latter.
The subsequently formed second monolayer has also a hexagonally close packed (hcp) structure, but shows more pronounced disordered domains.
That is, "random" and "close packed" are not independent concepts; looking for the maximally close-packed random collection makes no more sense than searching for the tallest short guy in the world.
The surfaces also appeared less corroded for electrodes with more close-packed surfaces.
These defects can exhibit open structures with locally lower coverage as well as more close-packed arrangements, in which the adsorbates deviate from the lattice sites and have a 15% reduced nearest neighbor spacing.
In the cases when more close-packed crystallographic planes ({110}, {100}, and {211} for bcc metals) are predominant on either side of the GB trace, the rigid-body shifts of grains along GBs can be determined using the indirect magnification phenomenon [10].
In contrast, the ZnS-related trapping sites are typical positron traps with a lifetime of τ int = 0.365 ns, which can be attributed (due to proximity in τ b ≈ 0.209 ns to bulk positron lifetimes of crystalline ZnS [22 24]) to multivacancy clusters in a network of more close-packed ZnS NP (Fig. 1d f) and free-volume voids in preferential ZnS environment (Fig. 2c, d).
However, AFM images reveal a clear p(3 × 3 -4Ag structure, which condenses to a close packed p(1 × 1 -Ag overlayer at more negative potentials.
This primarily reflects the rather low potential for CO oxidation characteristic of the more open packed Pt(1 1 0)-(1×2) surface, and the higher potential characteristic of the close packed Pt(1 1 1) face.
