Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said Mr Carney's comments was more evidence that had Scotland voted Yes on 18 September, it would now be "facing up to financial meltdown".

David Cameron also responded on the Murnaghan programme to Carney's comments by saying he was well aware of the need for more new homes, which was why he had simplified the planning process in favour of developers.
Mr. Carney's comments, echoed by State Department and other administration officials, seemed aimed at supporting Admiral Mullen's tough comments up to a point, while giving Pakistan a small window to save face.
