Every year wreaths should be laid at a new national monument – working title: the Men-o-taph – that commemorates their courage in the face of the possibility of democracy not returning the result they wanted– and, in some cases, thought they'd paid for.
Aiming to make remembrance more personal, she "subverted, one by one, the characteristics of the official monument", working on a small scale without pedestal or permanence.
Forces hellbent on erasing our historical memory: American monuments, works of art, literature . . . are being ripped from the classroom and the public square".
"The diary is much more important to me than the monuments work," she says.
"Often it's hard to work out what he was doing, and who for, even before his monuments work started".
As in other cities in which monuments and works of art stand exposed, air pollution corroded and defaced many priceless examples of stonework from the Venetian past.
After the meeting, Peter Carson, head of Stonehenge for English Heritage, said the gathering showed that all those interested in the monument could work together.
"At the same time, the by-products of accelerating technological change -- industrialization, population growth and pollution -- threaten to destroy in a few generations monuments and works of art that have survived thousands of years of war, revolution, famine and pestilence".
The prosecution also said six buildings were destroyed on that day, and damage caused to various "institutions dedicated to religion, charity, education, the arts and sciences, historic monuments and works of art and science".
The capital is Rome, one of the oldest of the world's great cities and a favourite of visitors, who go there to see its great monuments and works of art as well as to enjoy the city's famed dolce vita, or "sweet life".
