Even among 12th graders nationwide, the use of barbiturates and nonheroin narcotics like cough suppressants, anti-diarrhetics and painkillers has doubled since 1992, said Dr. Lloyd Johnston, the author of "Monitoring the Future," an annual report on adolescent drug use nationwide.
