Jupiter Media Metrix was formed in June 2000 as the combination of Media Metrix, which monitors a sample of Web users to tell advertisers and investors which sites are the most popular, with Jupiter Communications, a collection of young analysts that specialized in advising big companies about how to get hip to the Internet.
