In other words, the underlying structure of language is reflected in the logical rules that govern the construction of molecular propositions out of atomic ones.
Simple (atomic) propositions are denoted by letters, and compound (molecular) propositions are formed using the standard symbols: · for "and," ∨ for "or," ⊃ for "if... then," and ∼ for "not".
More complex propositions, called molecular propositions, are built up out of atomic propositions via the logical connectives such as "… or …," "… and …," and "… not …"—and the truth-value of the molecular proposition is in each case a function of the truth-values of its component atomic propositions.
Molecular propositions are concatenations of elementary propositions.
Molecular propositions don't picture states of affairs; molecular propositions agree/disagree with the possible state of affairs pictured by the elementary propositions that are their constituents.
