It should be noted that though both amyloid fibril and spider silk crystal are formed based on stacking of β-sheets, the elastic moduli of amyloid fibrils studied in this work and refs. [8, 21, 38] are smaller than the elastic modulus of spider silk crystal (i.e., ~60 GPa) [55].
Based on this phenomenological study, the elastic moduli of the α-synuclein fibrils determined using these three different modalities are within the range 1.3-2.1 1.3-2.1
The elastic moduli of prion and non-prion fibrils measured from our SMD simulations are an order of magnitude larger than those estimated from ENM simulations reported in our previous work [19].
Some of the diseases also feature clumps of fibrils called amyloids.
In each instance, the researchers said, the body eventually turns the protofibrils into sheets of fibrils called amyloid.
A different stain revealed what Alzheimer called "a tangled bundle of fibrils" — weedy, menacing strands of rope bundled densely together.

Young's moduli of the compressed gels did not increase with increasing collagen fibril density, whilst zero-strain hydraulic permeability significantly decreased from 51 to 21 mm4/Ns.
These simulations, therefore, suggest that the lower Young's moduli of fibrils/fibril bundles cannot be attributed to the specific packing of triple helices in the fibril core.
Given the sensitivity of the Young's moduli of triple helices to solvation environment, a plausible explanation is that the packing of triple helices into fibrils perhaps reduces the Young's modulus of an individual triple helix, which results in fibrils having smaller Young's moduli.
