It is based on the definition of Figures Of Merits, consisting in numerical parameters, such as the ratio between the modules volume and the overall volume of segment assigned, the approximation between the real profile of the modules and the theoretical one, the form factor of the modules, the ratio between the module thickness at the mid-plane and the segment thickness at the same position.
In MCODE, a score is associated to each module by the ratio between the number of interactions and that of proteins in the module.
There are numerous examples of the kinds of mechanisms that are hypothesized to underlie our behavior on the basis of research guided by these theoretical tenets: the cheat detection module; the waist/hip ratio detection module; the snake fear module and so on.
Reviewer #2: The paper by Wei et al. uses an optimality argument to explain the empirically observed geometric progression of the spacing of grid modules and the ratio of this geometric progression.
Using the CHASER module, the mixing ratios of atmospheric gases, which mainly include ozone, NO x, CO, SO2, VOCs, and sulfate aerosols, can be predicted.
First, with the assumptions as formulated in their paper, and the scores of neurons that are known to exist in each grid module, the scale ratios would generically be predicted to be much larger than 1 (please see the detailed response to Reviewer 2).
We then sorted the module pairs by the ratio of these two numbers (original vs. rewired maximum) in a descending order.
The overall geometry of the microrobot and the gear module, which is the ratio of the pitch diameter to the number of teeth on the gear, has a direct influence on the dimensions of the gears.
