These various analyses demonstrate that Sxl is a bona fide target of the PcG/trxG proteins despite the relatively low levels of their marks compared to more heavily modified genes such as Ubx and hb.
If found, such a partition suggests the existence of modifier genes, such as TF modifying enzymes, that should be differentially expressed between the correlated and uncorrelated sample partitions.
This may occur through increased expression of i) ECM-modifying genes, such as LOX and PAI-1, ii) functional co-operation with transforming growth factor (TGF -β1, iii) promoTGF -β1 epiiielial to mesenchymal transition (EMT), and iv) through modulation of renal inflammation [ 35].
