Together this robust surgical model serves as a foundation for screening for novel chemical and genetic modifiers of liver regeneration, particularly applicable to resection due to cirrhosis or cancer in the clinical setting.
Although major advances have been made in understanding pathogenesis and also identification of genetic modifiers of liver injury extending beyond simple steatosis including PNPLA3 and TM6SF2[ 8107108▪▪]08▪▪], these advances have not yet been fully capitalized upon and so we lack effective pharmacotherapy.
