Activity-based probes (ABPs) label the active form of an enzyme via covalent modification of catalytic residues.
The latter may be related to the recently found effect of non-faradaic electrochemical modification of catalytic activity (NEMCA).
However, no permanent Non-faradaic Electrochemical Modification of Catalytic Activity (NEMCA) effect was observed on sputtered-Pt films.
This work suggested that modification of catalytic activity through morphology tuning with composition adjustment might provide some new pathways for the design of promising catalysts with advanced performance.
The result showed that (1) Catalytic Converter design and modification of catalytic materials can be an alternative to overcome the high air pollution problem from the transportation sector, esspecially particular Carbon Monoxide exhaust emissions from gasoline motors.
These rate increases are strongly non-Faradaic with apparent Faradaic efficiencies, Λ, up to 20, manifesting the effect of Electrochemical Promotion or Non-faradaic Electrochemical Modification of Catalytic Activity (NEMCA).
In fact, EPOC or NEMCA (Non-Faradic Electrochemical Modification of Catalytic Activity) have shown the importance of being able to combine electrical contacts between catalytic metals and ion conducting oxide layers as well as to develop in the same system catalytic materials with large specific surface area.
This new effect of non-faradaic electrochemical modification of catalytic activity (NEMCA) has been already demonstrated for more than 30 catalytic reactions on Pt, Pd, Rh, Ag, Au and Ni surface by using O2−, F−, Na+ and H+ conducting solid electrolytes.
This inhibition appears to be due to the modification of catalytic residues in both N- and C-terminal redox centers of TrxR.
This phenomenon – usually referred to as non-faradaic electrochemical modification of catalytic activity (NEMCA) – can strongly change the catalytic properties of the metal and is thus a highly interesting effect in the field of surface catalysis [3,4].
