In this first part of our two-part paper, we study access patterns for data types, addressing modes, and instruction encoding.
It examines the way a simple program is written in 8086 assembly language using all addressing modes and the instructions of the architecture.
These include: multiple operations per cycle, hardware loop constructs, specialized addressing modes, and interlocked instruction pipelines.
