The SGOMS macro-cognitive model of expertise and how it is implemented in ACT-R is described as an example.
A model of expertise in physics problem solving was tested on undergraduate science, physics, and engineering majors enrolled in an introductory-level physics course.
A simple model of expertise, which incorporates the main features proposed by researchers, implies that a best-expert's estimates of failure rates are based on accessible quantitative data on accidents, incidents, etc. Best-expert estimates will use the best available and accessible data.
Beck (2011) notes how the IPCC follows a linear model of expertise that prioritizes 'value free' science, encourages the separation of problem from response, and prioritizes an impacts-based approach with its focus on scenarios and climate modeling.
During the group sessions, students articulate their knowledge, reasoning, or problem-solving processes (articulation), and compare their own processes with those of other students, an expert, or ultimately an internal cognitive model of expertise (reflection).

In terms of the modeling and simulation level of expertise, ~2 of 3 were seniors (64%) vs. 36% juniors (i.e., postdoctorials and PhD students).
As a conceptual framework for the curricular development of practical skills course models, the "Theory of Expertise" by Ericsson et al. is suitable [ 16- 18].
Facilitating factors in the execution phase in both models were: development of expertise by case managers; taking part in an acknowledged case manager education program; support by an expert team; regular and frequent meetings with the case manager team; and enthusiasm and commitment of case managers.
