The purpose of the present article is to provide a comprehensive survey of the salient modelling methods which can be found in the literature.
The deterministic modelling methods, which approximate molecular numbers using continuous concentrations [ 10][ 11], may not be appropriate to describe systems that contain species with small population numbers.
