In most training programs, professionalism and collaboration are part of an implicit, ad hoc curriculum largely consisting of role modeling and trial and error.
An example of within-participant design study is a study where the goal was to retrain activities of daily living (such as making a tea or coffee, using a CD player, or changing batteries in a remote control) in 14 NCD patients (mini mental state examination ranging from 10 to 26). 17 There were three types of training conditions in the study: errorless learning, modeling, and trial and error.
However, the intervention used in this trial was robustly developed according to established criteria for developing and evaluating complex interventions which included a theory, modeling, and exploratory trial phase; therefore, this study is reproducible (22).
