A simplified model of solar chimney power plant (SCPP) consists of a heating air collector, turbine and chimney.
The present work aims at studying flow mixing behaviour of hot and cold water inside a 2/9th scaled down model of the chimney structure experimentally.
Experiments and numerical simulations were carried out to study the turbulent mixing behaviour of two opposing flows inside a 1/18th scaled down model of square chimney structure of a pool type research reactor.
We used a combination of a heat transfer finite element model to obtain the temporal distributions of temperature during the fire event and the structural model of concrete chimney design provided by the American Concrete Institute (ACI 307 08).
Finite element model of 100 m chimney (H/D b = 7) with fixed base subjected to across-wind load is shown in Fig. 2.

It is inferred that the state of stress developed at the base of chimney modelled with piled raft foundation and surrounding soil is different from that in the case of fixity at base due to the interaction among these three components.
The model shows that second-law efficiency and power harvested increase with the increase of chimney height and/or diameter.
The covariates used in the model were chimney count within 500 m, distance to nearest industrial area, binary count of residential or nonresidential land, implementation of the 1956 Clean Air Act (as yes/no), and area of industry within 500 m.
