For the model base case (ie, the modeled scenario which is expected to most closely reflect actual clinical practice), we assigned utilities to each health state in the model, as per Grunberg et al. 29 They elicited QALY scores using a visual analog scale for chemotherapy states, in the absence and presence of nausea and vomiting.
In the model base case analysis, adverse events were therefore not taken into consideration.
Secondly, the model base case does not use randomized controlled trial data to compare TLR rates between groups.
The model base case used a hypothetical cohort comprising of 1000 surgeries in the first year and followed a 5.2%% annual increase each year.
However, the uncertainties around the above parameters were addressed by conducting scenario analyses, the results of which confirmed the robustness of the model base case.

Under the model base case settings (with no empiric treatment, a 10-day treatment duration, and discontinuation or switch of therapy possible after 7 days), the total inpatient (medical plus drug) costs were $46,168 for linezolid and $46,992 for vancomycin (Table 3).
