Since the HCV core protein has been reported to promote HCV replication through binding to DDX3, the core protein appears to switch DDX3 from an IFN-inducing mode to an HCV-replication mode.
As the host immune system falters, M. tuberculosis returns to replication mode, which leads to the recurrence of active infection.

Although the stated goal of the analysis is to understand how the replication mode shapes the mutation distribution, the treatment of mutations seems rather lightweight, by comparison to replication dynamics, and also has confusing aspects.
Rolling circle replication (RCR) is another mode of replication analogous to DRCR.
Such factors might include chemical or enzyme-induced methylation and deamination of nucleotide bases [ 23, 24], genomic secondary structure-induced replication errors [ 25], or the mode of virus replication (with the stamping machinery mode of replication expected to result in lower mutation rates than geometric replication [ 26, 27]).
