We propose Bowdon-Johnson-Kendall-Roberts model to measure the critical shear stress of circular point contact, and the critical shear stress map is constructed through the lateral force mode and force map mode of Atomic Force Microscope to research the interface property of nanomaterials.

The effect of processing parameters i.e., polymer concentration and number of freeze thaw cycles on the resulting topography of the freeze thawed transparent hydrogels has been studied and quantified using non-contact mode of an atomic force microscope (AFM) and image analysis.
To prepare the samples for AFM analysis, 2 μL of suspended cells was placed on a piece of No. 2 borosilicate cover glass (VWR, West Chester, PA) and placed in a vacuum dessicator (Fisher Scientific) to dry for 15 min. Samples were examined using the contact mode of an atomic force microscope (Veeco Instruments; Malvern, PA).

Using both AFM and a single case of mode synthesizing atomic force microscopy (MSAFM) to characterize Populus, we obtained images that clearly show the cell wall structure.
Technical and scientific motivations associated with these modified probes have led to the recent development of an inverted AFM design and its subsequent use for a new enhanced mode of operation called combinatorial atomic force microscopy.
