Fei Xiaotong distinguishes the basic social structures of China and the Western world through the theoretical models of "the differential mode of associations" (Chaxu Geju) and "the group mode of associations" (Tuanti Geju).
The basis of this relationship is the Chinese people's boundary-permeated self formed under the differential mode of associations (Chaxu Geju).
