Similarly, other multi-modality approaches such as PET/MRI are under development to increase the spatial and temporal resolution of the PET and the sensitivity of MRI [68].
During the past 20 years, treatments for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) have changed dramatically owing largely to the advent of novel approaches such as combined modality therapy as well as improvements in surgical and radiotherapeutic techniques.
There is also a need to expand treatment modalities beyond CBT to include additional approaches, such as exercise and/or community-based programs, that link treatment to community resources beyond health care systems, such as in-home (61) or community-based treatment programs (62).
There is renewed interest in magnetic hyperthermia as a treatment modality for cancer, especially when it is combined with other more traditional therapeutic approaches, such as the co-delivery of anticancer drugs or photodynamic therapy.
Further study of this sequential combined modality approach is warranted.
In this manner, Hsp90 inhibition by ganetespib can be viewed as a multi-nodal modality rather than a target-specific therapeutic approach, such as that engendered by a JAK2 or other kinase inhibitor (Figure 7).
