The limited space in an infant can significantly impede the mobility of robotic instruments.
Indeed, the use of 80 mm Hg infusion pressure led to decreased mobility of arthroscopic instruments due to a greater degree of soft tissue swelling around port access sites.
Concerning the second criteria, the Barthel-Index (a measure of activities of daily living), it was significantly correlated with the scales "communication" and "mobility" of our instrument.
This is consistent with conclusions from Hays et al. [ 19], and with findings from Belvedere and Morton [ 8] who examined the frequency of Rasch analyses in the development of mobility instruments.
In terms of mobility, all of the instruments contain meaningful concepts linked to categories in d4 Mobility and all the instruments intend to include content from this domain.
Thus, there is evidence for the DEMMI to overcome crucial issues with floor and ceiling effects [ 20, 24, 27, 28] that hamper clinical interpretability of most common mobility measurement instruments reported in other studies [ 16- 18].
However, clinimetric evaluation indicated significant limitations with each of these mobility instruments.
The BI is widely used as a self report measure of independence in activities of daily living in the acute hospital setting [ 11] and, prior to this study, the HABAM was identified as having the most desirable properties of existing mobility instruments [ 3].
Three instruments were included in this review and were subjected to rigorous clinimetric evaluation: the Elderly Mobility Scale (EMS) [ 22], the Hierarchical Assessment of Balance and Mobility (HABAM) [ 26, 27] and the Physical Performance Mobility Examination (PPME) [ 29]. Figure 1 shows a flow diagram of the inclusion and exclusion of instruments in this review (Phase 1).
