Kenya, on the other hand, has taken steps to teach the children of nomadic pastoralists, experimenting with pilot mobile schools by attaching teachers to a nomadic family or group of families, but with limited success.

By reaching children where they live, mobile schools represent one long-term solution to the education gap for pastoralists.
Nearly 13,000 out of 21,000 out-of-school children gained access to education through mobile schools and complementary education programmes in the Anseba, Gash Barka, Northern Red Sea and Southern Red Sea regions.
In a groundbreaking initiative, the Jhabua district administration, with support from UNICEF and other partners, launched 22 mobile schools in tents, bringing formal education to the children of the largely tribal, migratory families in the district.
To help address this problem, UNICEF is working with the Ministry of Education and the Office of the President to increase access to education through support for mobile schools, boarding schools, improved water and sanitation facilities in schools and better-quality teaching in child-centred, girl-friendly classrooms.
