Blood was drawn within 12 h of ICU admission and plasma sTLR2 and C-reactive protein levels were determined by ELISA methods following the manufacturer's instructions (R&D Systems, Minneapolis, MN, sTLR2 in normal serum: 0.575 ± 0.140 ng/ml; range 0.296 0.880).
