Mixture model analysis confirmed that the distributions of both younger and older MCI patients were more likely to follow a single normal distribution, with mean values of 1.36 ± 0.19 (n = 171) for younger MCI patients and 1.35 ± 0.20 (n = 171) for older MCI patients (Fig. 5b).
That aside, the improvement in log-likelihoods observed with the MMNL model, over and above that of the MNL model, confirm there are some significant variations in and correlations between the coefficients drawn from the continuous mixture distribution.
Phylogenomic analysis of the Eukaryotic Dataset with one of the currently most realistic phylogenetic models (category mixture model (CAT); [ 37]) confirms the monophyly of major eukaryotic groups including Holozoa, Fungi, Amoebozoa, and Viridiplantae.
Structural models confirmed this result.
Adjusted models confirmed this finding.
For example, consideration of the probability that a sample pertained to either one of the two components of the mixture model used to describe the sub-network of gene CDC5 confirmed some expected assignments and suggested unexpected commonalities between samples.
However, in a multi-metric analysis using a novel Bayesian mixture model developed to deal with correlated variables this finding was not confirmed with no single factor being associated with an important increase in risk.
Using both real and simulated data (see Additional file 1), we confirm the capacity of the site-heterogeneous mixture model (CAT) under a Bayesian framework, currently implemented in software PhyloBayes [ 38, 56], to substantially avoid the LBA artefacts.
