We demonstrate that hydrodynamic properties of the mixed fluid are conserved by a suitable coupling of the two particle methods, and that the simulation results agree well with theoretical expectations.
The mixed rumen fluid was collected from 2 rumen-fistulated Holstein dry dairy cows fed at maintenance (forage:concentrate ratio of 80 20; 12% crude protein; 55% amylase-treated neutral detergent fiber).
For the perfectly mixed fluids, M is 1, and for the unmixed fluids, M is 0. A mixing efficiency of 0.9 or above indicates excellent mixing, and a mixing efficiency between 0.8 and 0.9 indicates acceptable mixing.
