Because we tested 23 different gene groups (all synaptic genes + 17 functional gene groups + one miscellaneous group and four biological pathways), the significance level was set at 0.05/23 = 0.0022.
Based on this categorization, a significant alteration was observed in the expression of several important genes related to metabolic pathways, cell signaling, immune response and other miscellaneous functions (Additional file 4).
These results suggest that satellite cells constitute a promising cell model for further experiments aimed at exploring calcium pathways involved in muscle dystrophies caused by mutations in miscellaneous genes.
Attending to their function, the 22 platelet proteins differentially regulated in NSTE-ACS compared to SCAD controls may be classified in the following groups (see Table 2): cytoskeletal/signaling (64%), vesicles/secretory trafficking pathway (18%), extracellular function (9%), and miscellaneous (9%).
Ultimately, the molecular variability of the genes within these pathways tended to be discordant, that is, the genes with the strongest correlation with risk were miscellaneous.
