For half of the investigated shifts, the 20 min sampling strategy performed even worse.
For example, for the 20 min sampling strategy, an estimate of the 10th-90th perangeile range could, in median, with a 5% probability be either more than 22.7° smaller (marked in Figure 4) or more than 25.4° larger (marked in Figure 5) than the true full-shift percentile range.
Thus, the example marked by squared in Figures 4 and 5 illustrates that for an 'average' (median) shift, using a 20 min sampling strategy to determine the 10th-90th perangeile range would result in 5% of all estimates deviating more than 22.7° downwards or 25.4° upwards from the true full-shift value.

The same four variables were also estimated for seven simulated sampling strategies of durations: 5, 10, 20, 40, 60, 120 and 240 min. For each sampling strategy, sampling windows of the appropriate duration were formed from the parent data set at one-minute intervals across the full-shift data.
13 Placenta villous tissue samples were collected within 30 min of birth, and the same sampling strategy used across groups.
The sampling strategy consisted of three different sampling schedules (with three sampling times in each): schedule 1: 30 min before the end of the infusion, 5 min and 3 4 h post-infusion; schedule 2: 30 min before the end of the infusion, 10 min and 5 7 h post-infusion; schedule 3: 5 min before the end of the infusion, 30 min and 20 24 h post-infusion.
For the other patients, a limited sampling strategy was adopted and only four samples were obtained, namely at the end, and 10 min, 4 and 24 h after the end of irinotecan infusion.
