The studies on the susceptibility of bacteria to the TiO2/UV process date back to 1985 when Matsunaga et al. [4] for the first time reported that a 120-min exposition of water polluted by E. coli and Lactobacillus acidophilus to the UV-A radiation resulted in an almost complete destruction of the bacteria.
Injury levels ranged from very low when only thymol or carvacrol was applied for short exposition times (around 20% of the population was injured after 5 min exposition to thymol, Figure 1(a)) to more than 99% of the population where more stringent conditions were applied (Table 2).
For these measurements, an operating temperature of 225 °C, a concentration of 200 ppm of CO gas, and a time of 10 min of exposition to this gas were used.
Both thymol and carvacrol inactivated about one log cycle of the initial population of L. monocytogenes cells within the first 20 min of exposition, showing δ values of 15.58 and 12.79 min, respectively, when these antimicrobials were added to the treatment medium (Table 1).
The test solutions were brought to test temperature and vented for a minimum of 15 min prior to exposition of the embryos.

Key results of the zirconia sampler tests with mercury halides were: the collection efficiency of >98%; reduction with 50 ppb ozone in the first 4 min of exposition to the atmospheric air ─ 6%±1%%; spontaneous reduction at 50 °C in the first 4 min after spiking ─ <0.6%.
