Cell migration was limited to the upper regions of the skin substitute if the inter-fibre distance was <5.5 μm, and the distances between 5 and 10 μm have favoured the proliferation of the cells deep into the scaffold (Powell and Boyce 2008).
Immunofluorescence (Fig. 2A B) and immuno-electron microscopy (Fig. 2E) revealed that when basal body migration was limited, the short new FAZ filament looked attached to the old one.
