On one side, factors such as institutions may put upward bias on the coefficient, if areas with weak institutions experience a larger increase in violence due to less effective police and judicial services and greater out-migration if employers and job opportunities locate elsewhere.
A common claim in popular discussions of migration is that employers prefer to hire workers with limited residency rights—such as temporary or undocumented migrants—over equally qualified natives, because these migrant workers are willing to work harder, for longer hours, or for less pay.

This second set of results helps us to determine how tightening of eligibility requirements for GSM visas and promoting Employer Sponsored migration have influenced the quality of the jobs held by skilled migrants.
This is important as employer sponsored migration is commonly found to select migrants with systematically different characteristics to those favoured by points based systems (e.g. Hawthorne, 2011; Czaika and Parsons, 2015).
