The curling displacements along the longitudinal joint side were smaller and those along the mid-slab were the smallest.
Furthermore, the influence of CMA on various parameters, in particular steel stress σsx, mid-slab deflection w, and slenderness h/l, is illustrated.
Reynard et al. (2010) investigated the cause of the low Vp and Vp/Vs values imaged via seismic tomography for this layer of the mid-slab mantle below eastern Hokkaido (Fig. 20).
Slab 1: proximal thigh to mid-thigh; Slab 2: lower leg with alignment of the proximal edge of this imaging slab on the tibiofemoral joint space; Slab 3: ankle-level with alignment of the distal edge of this imaging-slab on the tibiotalar joint space.

At mid-latitude, the slab thickness is about 250 600 kilometers and at high-latitude, the slab thickness can reach 1100 kilometers during high solar activity (Iwamoto et al., 2002).
