Since the introduction of capillary microscopy, several parameters have been identified that could potentially serve as treatment targets for the hemodynamic management, such as the density of the capillary network consisting of vessels with a diameter below 25 μm (total vessel density, TVD) and flow velocity in individual capillaries.
