On the other hand, a previous electron microscopic analysis revealed that degenerative changes including the accumulation of autophagic vacuoles are a conspicuous feature of NBs [13], and it has also been proposed that the spontaneous regression of NBs may occur via a H-Ras-associated non-apoptotic mechanism with the appearance of autophagic vacuoles in a caspase-independent manner [12].
