We detected in our trimmed reads 5,763 microsatellite repeats, the majority of them containing dinucleotide motifs (4,772; min. 10 repeat units), followed by tetra- (857; min. 8 units) and trinucleotide repeats (434; min. 8 units).
The ages of accumulated microsatellite variation in the majority of Indian haplogroups exceed 10,000 15,000 years, which attests to the antiquity of regional differentiation.
