While RFLPs assay are time consuming and labor intensive, among PCR-based markers, microsatellites require sequence information for primer pair design but, once developed, they are highly transferable across species, especially within the genus [ e.g. [ 42, 43]].
Nevertheless, for the eventual detection of hybridization, the use of microsatellites requires additional efforts such as standardization of allele lengths for both species and for the cross-species amplification in the hybrids [ 21].
