S. Typhimurium is a wild host range serovar and has been extensively studied in a murine model of systemic infection to indirectly elucidate some microbiological and immunological traits of typhoid fever in humans [15], a life-threatening and systemic infection caused by the S. enterica serovar Typhi (S. Typhi).
