Considering the tolerance to saline conditions, these microorganisms are important microbial resources for biotechnological application in bioremediation, including degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in ocean and marine sediments (Raghukumar et al. 2006; Passarini et al. 2011).
For this we used the automated annotation of the Comprehensive Microbial Resource of the Institute of Genomic Research TIGRR).
We obtained genomic sequences from the following sources: the Comprehensive Microbial Resource (http://cmr.tigr.org/) for E. coli, the Saccharomyces Genome Database (ftp://genome-ftp.stanford.edu/) for S. cerevisiae, the Eisen Lab (http://rana.lbl.gov/drosophila/) for D. melanogaster, and Ensembl (http://www.ensembl.org/) for M. musculus.
Its economic potential spurred research, yet practice awaits a comprehensive recipe for microbial resource management.
To select additional house-keeping loci, we used the multi-genome homology comparison tool available through the Comprehensive Microbial Resource (CMR; ) to search for proteins present in all available streptococcal genomes that had at least 80% amino acid sequence identity.
Vd (FSU-343, Jena Microbial Resource Center, Germany) was grown for 2-3 weeks on Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) medium [ 64].
The draft genomes of J0161 (version 1), J2818 (version 2), F6900 (version 2) (NCBI accession nos. AARW00000000.1, AARX00000000.1, and AARU00000000.1), sequenced as described above, as well as the unfinished sequence of F6854 (AADQ00000000.1), obtained from the Comprehensive Microbial Resource [ 76] were used for all analyses.
Protein and gene sequence data for these five isolates were retrieved from the Comprehensive Microbial Resource [ 52].
It also provides a uniform interface for the scientific and industrial communities to access the comprehensive microbial resource information.
