Soil microbial community is an essential component of the soil ecosystem.
By combining secretome-selective phage display and next-generation sequencing, we focused the sequence analysis of complex rumen microbial community on the metasecretome component of the metagenome.
We partitioned the variation in microbial community dissimilarity matrices into components that accounted for vegetation, environment and geographic distance (i.e. pure effects) and their combined effects (Fig. 4, Table S2).
Next, when the authors compared baseline samples from progressing and non-progressing sites, they detected notable differences in the overall microbial community and in the components of the active microbiome.
