Based on the microarray results, we conducted whole mount in situ hybridization screens to identify novel gene expression patterns.
To validate the microarray results, we conducted quantitative real-time PCR tests for 32 randomly selected genes that were identified as differentially expressed by the array hybridizations.
A list of the processes affected after ROSC and/or by MB (addressed in the discussion) can be found in Additional file 2. Validation of differentially expressed genes according to the microarray results was conducted by RT-qPCR.

SH collected samples, performed chemical analysis of berries, clustering of microarray data and statistical analysis of qPCR results, conducted HPLC, and assisted in annotation of genes.
Given this evidence that EBV miRNAs could distinguish between lung cancer histologies, we sought to confirm the microarray results by conducting qPCR for EBV pre-miRNAs BART1, BART2, and BHRF1 3 in a subset of cases (n=48) (Supplementary Table 2).
