Much the same effect was seen in a second experiment, in which dosing did not start until the mice were middle-aged, except that cataracts that had already formed could not be reversed.
The field mice are middle-class.
Interestingly, as with the tendency to form pulmonary adenomas, FVB mice were in the middle of the spectrum and developed low multiplicity of tumors that correlated with less frequent precursor lesions as well.
