VERTEX is implemented in Matlab (Mathworks Inc., Natick, MA, USA), and makes use of established theory of extracellular potential generation, combined with modern simulation methods and developments in simplified neuron modelling to simulate local field potentials (LFPs) from large neuronal network models encompassing more than 100,000 neurons.
