The tactic made supporters feel more connected to Mr. Obama and allowed the campaign to reach voters, particularly youth, much more inexpensively than traditional methods like advertisements, mailings and automated phone calls.
FPs were invited to participate using various methods: e-mail, letters, telephone calls, personal contacts, and advertisements.
Periodically, we reviewed progress with recruitment methods and invested more in newspaper advertisement, which proved to be more effective compared to other sources.

Main Outcome Measures: The numbers of responses and accrual rates were determined for 8 different recruitment methods: newspaper advertisements, community referrals, radio advertisements, community colleges, press releases, a community electronic sign, public television, and local posters.
Recruitment methods included advertisements; flyers posted in public places, such as clinics, markets, and churches, frequented by Korean Americans; and snowball techniques [ 45].
