To identify common pathways between complex diseases, we annotated gene-phenotype relationships found in the Genetic Association Database (GAD) [ 1] (see Additional File 1), then analyzed these phenotype-associated gene lists using the Structurally Enhanced Pathway Enrichment Analysis (SEPEA) algorithm (See methods for summary and described in detail in [ 13]).
