Type of interventions: different mesh fixation methods (or fixation vs no fixation) in open inguinal hernia repair, including, but not limited to, sutures, tacks or staples, self-fixing meshes and fibrin or other glues.
A systematic search will be performed using PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM) and Chinese Journal Full-text Database, to include RCTs of different mesh fixation methods (or fixation vs no fixation) during open inguinal hernia repair.
RHP may be classified according to the different materials used, and they are as follows: (silicone, polyethylene, pyrocarbon, metal), differences in modularity (monoblock vs. modular), polarity (uni- or monopolar vs. bipolar) or fixation method (cemented vs. uncemented press fit vs. intentional loose fit).
Another limitation of the present study was the relatively small numbers of patient for each fracture site or fixation method.
Such differences in preservation and fixation could possibly affect the results, although both we and others have previously obtained consistent results with anti-S100A4 antibodies regardless of storage conditions or fixation method (Rudland et al, 2000).
